Welcome to the Foundations in AFNR & STEM Careers course! The course serves as a hands-on survey and introduction to AFNR fields, technology, and the skills and competencies within the industry. The course focuses on the development of real world projects that students can use to demonstrate their AFNR and STEM skills.

This intro course will focus on the past, present and future of America’s agriculture industry and the impact technology continues to make. Students will explore the seven AFNR sub-clusters. Students will also research career and college opportunities in each area of the sub-clusters featured throughout the course.

Foundations in AFNR & STEM Careers is an introductory digital course that connects students to the exciting and essential world of agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR)—a vital sector packed with real-world opportunities. This hands-on, project-based curriculum helps learners explore a wide range of AFNR careers while developing STEM and employability skills through engaging, standards-aligned activities.

Perfect for middle and early high school programs, this course introduces students to sustainable agriculture, food systems, environmental stewardship, and natural resource management. Students will investigate real challenges facing our world today, like food insecurity and environmental impact, while using the engineering design process and critical thinking to create solutions.

Designed with flexibility in mind, this curriculum supports CTE pathways, STEM classes, or enrichment programs, and empowers educators with ready-to-use lessons, rubrics, and assessments. No previous agriculture or STEM background is needed—just a desire to prepare students for future success.
