Why Teach Greek and Latin Roots?
Teaching Greek and Latin roots has been proven to build vocabulary, improve spelling, and build confident readers and writers. Having a solid understanding of roots will help students be able to predict the meaning of and confirm unknown words they encounter. Greek and Latin roots help students connect new and unfamiliar words to words that they know and understand. Additionally, Greek and Latin roots usually have predictable spelling patterns. The more roots students know, the more their spelling will improve.
I love this vocabulary method!
The word parts are used repeatedly throughout the book, but not in a boring way. The students are learning the meaning of the most common roots, prefixes, and suffixes without realizing it! They are exposed to numerous words they may never have seen before, see how words are related, and they get to play with words.
The strategies and techniques implemented in this book create impowered, confident readers! To learn more about how it helped my students, read my article 5 Proven Reading Strategies.
