From Blueprint to Autonomous Rover
The Rover Project Pack equips classrooms with five reusable kit sets that guide students through building, coding, and testing their own robotic rovers. Perfectly aligned with the Hummingbird Bit system, this pack supports up to five teams as they explore real-world STEM challenges through hands-on learning.
Over the course of five structured lessons, learners begin by constructing their rovers using laser-cut wooden components, wheels, motors, and sensors. As the unit progresses, students explore coding fundamentals—loops, conditionals, and sensor integration—to bring their rovers to life. By mid-project, they program rovers to track lines, avoid obstacles, and navigate preset mazes using distance sensors—laying a foundation in autonomous robotics .
Ideal for grades 6–8, the Rover Project Pack builds essential skills in computer science, physics, and engineering. It emphasizes collaboration, iterative design, and problem-solving. Teams must test drive paths, improve reliability, and reflect on that process. The experience mirrors authentic STEM work—students engineer, code, test, improve, and share their results .
Educators gain access to a comprehensive pacing guide, slide deck, student activity sheets, and standards-aligned curriculum aligned with NGSS, ISTE, and CSTA frameworks. Designed to minimize prep time, the pack integrates into any Hummingbird Premium Kit setup to elevate robotics lessons—even for first-time teachers.
Engaging, effective, and repeatable—the Rover Project Pack empowers classrooms to go beyond theory. Students leave the experience not only with working rovers, but with foundational robotics skills and a thirst for innovation.
Hummingbird Premium Kit required and sold separately.
Build and code one of the projects over 5 class sessions. Disassemble it and then start the next project, building skills and confidence as you go. Each Project Pack offers about 5 class sessions of hands-on learning.
