Bring Any Creation to Life with the Hummingbird Bit Base Kit
Unlock curiosity and hands-on learning with the Hummingbird Bit Base Kit, a modular robotics toolkit that powers imagination through lights, sensors, and motors—activated by the popular micro:bit controller. Designed for Grades 4–12, this kit offers a low barrier to entry: beginners can build simple projects in minutes, while advanced students push boundaries by programming interactive creations like robotic arms, animatronic poems, or rovers .
At its heart is the Hummingbird Bit controller, engineered with electrically protected connectors making it safe and easy to plug in LEDs, servo motors, and sensors—no deep electronics background needed. Powered by four AA batteries, students connect lights (colored and tri‑color LEDs), FS90 servos, a light sensor, and a dial sensor—laying a strong foundation in circuits, coding logic, and mechanical motion.
The kit supports a wide range of coding environments, from beginner BirdBlox to MakeCode, Snap!, Python, Java, and more—ensuring compatibility with your curriculum and student skill levels. Resources include standards-aligned tutorials, lesson plans, and free professional development, all with classroom-tested guidance from Carnegie Mellon University’s NSF-funded research.
Packaged in a sturdy case with sorting compartments, the Hummingbird Bit kit is designed for real classrooms—durable, portable, and ready to support long-term creative exploration. This kit not only teaches engineering and programming—it fosters problem-solving, design iteration, and storytelling, all through meaningful making.
