Micro: bit Go Bundle

Get creative, get connected, and get coding!

The Micro: bit Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in the UK in 2016, with the aim of inspiring every child to create their best digital future.  The micro:bit was originally created by the BBC in collaboration with 29 other leaders in business and academia as part of the BBC’s Make It Digital initiative. This major UK-wide project launched in 2014 with a focus on creating the next generation of digital innovators.

The micro: bit helps you understand how computers work. When you type on your laptop or touch the screen on your phone, you’re using an input device. Inputs allow computers to sense things happening in the real world, so they can act on this and make something happen, usually on an output like a screen or headphones.

In between the input and the output, there is the processor. This takes information from inputs like buttons and makes something happen on outputs, like playing a song in your headphones.

Created by the BBC working in partnership with other brands, the micro: bit is a small, programmable computer that has been designed to inspire children and young people to learn about programming and electronics in a practical and fun way.

What’s new with the micro: bit V2?

The BBC micro: bit launched in 2016 and has been a huge success globally, completely transforming the way children learned about computing digitally. All of the features everyone loves about the micro: bit have stayed whilst some new ones have been added. To note, the micro: bit v2 board is backward compatible with other micro: bit boards, ecosystems, and accessories. So you don’t have to worry about replacing any equipment you have.
